Paul Alexander

Paul is a licensed professional counselor who has worked at Samaritan since 2007.

After attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Austin College and a Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, he was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church, USA. He briefly worked in parish ministry, by extensive chaplaincy training and service in general medical hospitals and Austin State (Psychiatric)Hospital. Discovering a calling working with people in mental and emotional distress, he obtained a Master of Science in Counseling from Texas A & M, Corpus Christi. For well over a decade he worked in crisis intervention/ chronic mental illness for Mental Health Mental Retardation Community Centers in Corpus Christi and Beaumont.

Paul had long been acquainted with Samaritan centers in Texas and supportive of the Samaritan mission before joining Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas in 2007 and is now proud to be part of providing affordable and holistic counseling to the community.

Paul works with a wide variety of clients doing everything from play therapy to couples counseling, crisis adjustment, depression, grief and loss. He specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Interpersonal Therapy.

Barbara Courville

Barbara is a Licensed Professional Counselor and works with individuals, children, families and couples who maybe struggling with issues of sexual abuse, anger, sexuality issues and substance abuse.

Before clinical practice Barbara worked for 19 years as a high school counselor; with such a diverse background of counseling individuals she is comfortable with most any area.

Samaritan Center is a faith sensitive organization; therefore Christian Counseling is also utilized.

Barbara was an active member for years in Texas Counseling Association and other state branches. She remains a member of TCA.

Christie Byrne

Christie Byrne, M.S., LPC-S
Clinical Director

Christie Byrne is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. She completed her practicum at Hospice of San Angelo and worked at the Pastoral Care and Counseling Center in Abilene during her internship. Previously, Christie worked with Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas in the Port Arthur and Beaumont offices for 11 years, and at the Samaritan Counseling Center in Amarillo for 2 years. Christie served as the Director of Counseling Services for Catholic Charities in Beaumont for 5 1/2 years. She is a member of the American
Association of Pastoral Counselors.

Christie rejoined the Samaritan Counseling Team in March of 2012.

Christie’s areas of interest are in working with clients of all ages, dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, anger management, grief, and transition.
